Mark 8:36 says For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? This very intriguing question forms the background and basis of this article.
To what extent do we go when we are trying hard as entrepreneurs or employee’s to get what we want? What is it that we sacrifice to get to our goals? Who do we lose in that process? When its all said and done and you are standing at the finish line, will you look back and be happy that although you are alone and lonely, it was all worth it?
In our various journeys to make something out of ourselves in this life, we end up sacrificing a lot and mostly it is those that are close to us that suffer most. Our families and friends. Those who we MUST use as pillars of strength in the difficult times. We end up losing them, we get to the top and realize there is no one to share that joy with.
But it doesn’t have to be like that. We can achieve with our loved ones by our side so they can walk for us when we can’t walk by ourselves. We all need a support structure in our lives, that where the work life balance comes in to save the day. We are mostly given the model of wealthy Americans who mostly had to break off contact with family and friends to get to where they are. We disregard the story of the Chinese billionaires who are now takin over the continent and the world. Most of them achieved what they have through maintaining a very close support structure in their families and communities.
